Ep. 10: How to write newsletters they actually WANT to read

One of my favorite business tasks is writing newsletters! However, figuring out how to get your audience to actually OPEN said newsletters is a whole other animal. Read on to see how what seems a daunting task is actually more achievable than you might think!

Begin targeting pain points


Your open rates should be 25% or more.  First, you want to start with a pain point subject. Know what your main point will be while writing newsletters! Market your audience or ask them to hit reply with their biggest struggles – you’ll learn a lot from this! (Poll your social media audiences too!)

Just start writing!


You’ll want to get as many raw ideas down as possible when working with writing newsletters. So, just start writing – without editing! Seeing all your natural ideas in front of you will give you an excellent foundation for your content. 

Remember these 3 simple tips once you’ve started writing your idea-formulated newsletter copy…

1.Don’t edit/write messy

2. Come back and read again

3. Read aloud!

Be consistent


Send out your newsletters on the same-ish days per week. This keeps people in a connection routine with your work!

I’ve been writing all my life – from once upon a time to happily ever after in 1st grade, to my mountain biking adventures on WordPress.com, to Live Laugh Love about the two types of people in the word to my parents top 10 tips for staying married 50+ years, to my series “31 Hats Moms Wear” and “The Truth About Launching our Kids.” 

Take it from me, I’ve got over 700 blog posts and I’m still learning how to write newsletters. You never stop honing your skill and the more you do this, the more you fall in love with the process! Keep this in mind when creating future newsletters, and you won’t regret it.
